What the March 2026 rent rules mean if you share a house
Housemately editorial · Ireland · 2026-07-31
From 1 March 2026, Ireland’s private residential rent rules changed again. If you share a house, the question that matters most is usually: if someone leaves, does the capped rent continue for the people who stay?
Housemately’s Rent Continuity Check is a free calculator for that scenario. It is not legal advice. Every result shows the rules we applied and links to the Residential Tenancies Board (rtb.ie) and Threshold (threshold.ie).
Use the Continuity Check with your rent, start date, and area. If we cannot answer confidently, we return UNSUPPORTED rather than invent a number.
